Background
In October 2024, Kemble residents presented a petition to Council requesting that a playground be installed in the community. In response, Council directed staff to explore options for a suitable site within Township-owned property.
The Kemble Athletic Fields were identified as the best available location. This greenspace, located north of the village, has historically served as a community recreation area, including use for local events and informal play. The property is Township-owned, open, and largely clear of obstacles, making it adaptable for new recreational amenities.
The Township was successful in securing funding for this project through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF), which will cover 50% of the total project cost. This grant significantly reduces the financial impact of the project.
The site offers several advantages for a playground:
Adequate space to meet safety setbacks for play structures
Room for parking and safe drop-offs
Opportunities for future connections to existing green space and walking areas
No infrastructure conflicts, such as the large septic system that limits space at the nearby Kemble arena
These factors make the Kemble Athletic Fields a practical and flexible location to serve current community needs while allowing for possible future recreation planning.
